I chose Carly's blog as the number one as the company is located in Greece, which as we all know will be under a lot of pressure at the moment, so it will be interesting to follow how it does. Also it is another informative and well written blog, with plenty of alternate information.

Now keeping in mind these are my favorites, however there are many more I will be monitoring, as they too have great content.

So after a stressful evening on Wednesday finding out one course has an assessment out of order (i.e. Assessment 3 due before Assessment 1 or 2, I have managed to get my act together, sort of, as I still need to workout how to add documents to my Blog. Below is a little I have concluded about my company, but what do I really know?? I may have read the reports wrong altogether?

My company is Infineon Technologies AG.

Key Concepts and Questions

Infineon manufactures semiconductors which have multiple applications for everyday life, including such things as the Wi-Fi systems or voltage regulators in our vehicles, smart LED lighting, the security chips on bank cards and passports, and items for use in the telecommunications industry. The possibility that we are using some of the technology developed by this company, either in our mobile phones or when we go shopping with our credit cards is extremely likely. Future applications are possible with the further development and introduction of energy efficient vehicles, in the form of charging stations and technology for these vehicles.

This German company was formerly a part of Siemens AG, and has been run as a separate entity since April 1 1999. 

Infineon has four (4) divisions (Automotive, Industrial Power Control, Power Management, and Chip Card & Security), with their focus being energy efficiency, mobility and security.

The Automotive and Industrial Power Control Divisions provided a combined 35 percent revenue increase in 2014 from the previous year, but only a one (1) percent increase in individual revenue.

Areas of the financial report I am having problems understanding

I am still unsure as to how the Consolidated Statement of Cash Flows fits into the spreadsheet.

I am still trying to work out what the AG means.

Areas of the business that seem most critical

The sales for the Asia-Pacific (excluding China and Japan) and China regions generate the highest revenue.

Ranked equal twelve, along with AMD, of the top 20 semiconductor manufacturers in the world, with revenue of $5.2 billion US dollars, compared to the top ranked earner (Intel) at $47 billion USD.

Key Challenges the firm appears to be facing

One of the main challenges the firm appears to be facing is the need to expand, through acquisition, and the increase of productivity to increase revenue, although the increase in production needs to be balanced so that the firm is able to maintain quality with the increased use of contract manufacturers.

How successfully the firm is meeting these challenges

Infineon’s strategy of investing 13 percent of revenue back into the business for Research and Development of new technologies appears to be working well, as the company has seen a steady increase in profitability and share price since the rapid declines they experienced during the European Debt Crisis (EDC).

So after a mammoth effort yesterday (this is of course after a lot of consultation with the 'Google Gods' on what all the different meanings to Balance Sheets etc. are), I think I have gotten most of the details entered into the spreadsheet.  

Me after my 12 hours study session yesterday.

Did have to double check on a couple of items as over the course of the 4 years the format of the account description did alter. Something to watch (I personally thought this was a tad sneaky). 

So today I will finalise, and double check my entries, and hopefully have it up on the blog for comment, as I need to be a week and a half ahead (due to the fact that I am off to freeze in New Zealand next Monday, as my step-daughter wanted to go skiing and snowboarding for her 21st!).

So now we have our companies, I have begun a little research into my own, Infineon Technologies AG. 

My company was a spin of from Siemens AG, and is now a seperate legal entity.

The company, founded on April 1 1999 is based in Neubiberg, Germany and its main focus areas are on energy efficiency, mobility and security.

The company is a semiconductor manufacturer with the company having four (4) main Divisions (Automotive, Industrial Power Control, Power Management & Multimarket, Chip Card & Security).

The business operates from multiple offices worldwide, one of which is located in Melbourne, Victoria.

Basically Infineon appears to be a company that focuses on four (4) distinct market areas. Unfortunately it's all in Euro's (why, oh why could I not have gotten dollars) :)

Well apparently yesterday involved a major senior moment. I thought it was Friday *face palm*.

Was anxiously trying to get my Company info, even emailed Martin when it did not appear by 1806.

So now I feel like an idiot! Way to end week one.

Going to go off and complete some invoicing and EOFY financial statements for my business now.

Here's a look at EVERYTHING I have open for the course...

Assignment Stage 1 (ASS#1)

Step 1 completed, hopefully, correctly.

26 minutes and counting until we can begin to discover who and what our 'company' is all about and begin Step 2. Who else is ready for this?

Time to spend some more time reading and on Peerwise I think, and then a few more leisurely hours I can spend on History and Marketing tasks.

Looks like the other half will be glad I have the Thermomix and there are a lot of frozen dinners (I also stocked up on my personal study essential - chocolate and tea).

My perception of what the course would entail has altered dramatically. Although this has thrown me a bit as I was fully prepared to crunch a whole lot of numbers.

Seems that as you go through the videos and other information in the course, that it is going to be a lot of fun.

My perception of Accounting are changing. It is also appears to be making it REALLY easy to retain the information (hopefully).

A little self inspiration for the day.

So it is now day 3 since I first logged on to the Course and started downloading, and sorting through, all the documentation. I am still coming to terms with all the different components required for completion of this course. So many new avenues to explore!

Have read the first chapter and posted my first question, and answered 15, so I am feeling pretty good as there are still another 11 days before the semester officially begins, which means I only need to post a minimum of another 24 questions, and answer a minimum of 235 (groan). I will definitely be looking for any advice I can get with regards how to decide on developing these questions in the future.

Who else is enjoying the format of the online course textbook? I am finding it very easy to relate it to the 'real world', as the information contained within relates to a range and variety of businesses which are quite close to home (only a 250 klm drive away).

I am also finding that, with 3 courses for my first semester, I am really glad I wake up at 0400 every day, as this is allowing me a lot of quiet time in which to complete a lot of reading.

I have also downloaded the course chapters to my tablet, which makes it easy to read when I need to warm up by climbing into bed, although I will miss the opportunity to read a lot of my usual novels (glad I finished off the latest Matthew Reilly book a month ago).
